Do I have to leave a star? All i can say is that if what you want is to waste an hour and a half of your life, i highly recommend this film as it meets the criteria of a mind numbingly boring film. It's a cross between an immigration story and a horror that for me soon turned into a comedy because it was so unrealistic it made me and my parents laugh.
The graphics were dead, as were the reactions of the actors. How is the man barely phased at the fact that a whole portal just opened up in his council house wall?I have so many unanswered questions, I feel mentally damaged, and am slowly starting to think I actually lost brain cells watching this movie.
Firstly, why was somebody's withered nan standing at a window making uncomfortable eye contact with the man for what felt like years?
Why were there MANY scenes that held no relevance to the film whatsoever?
Why did a bald man wrapped in a white, wet bin liner dig his claws into the man's arm? which then magically healed less than two minutes later...
Secondly, what relevance did the three racist school boys hold to the story? It doesn't make sense. If you're trying to highlight the fact that many immigrants face racism and discrimination, fair enough. But why would she face racism from people of the same race as her... make it an accurate representation or just cut the scene out bc not only did they waste viewers time, but also the poor school boys who made an absolute mockery of themselves in such a stupid and pointless scene.
im meant to be scared to go to the toilet or scared to walk around the house bc its dark, but if anything… i WANT to! I want to distract my mind and thoughts, away from this monstrosity (the poorly explained plot was more scary than the film itself! )... i WANT to leave this room bc the memories of this film now haunt my living-room and i feel like every time i'm in here i have to think about this failure of a movie. The backstory was good and the representation of the experiences and struggles of migrants was touching and meaningful as well as educational, however, im unfortunately still truly lost for words to be quite frank... all i can say is oof..what a failure of a movie and what an hour and half of my life i will never get back. On the other hand, i can confidently say that the 2 lead actors are fantastic! They literally make you feel as if 2 immigrants have come to the UK to start a new life, and go through daily struggles with adapting to life in a new country. Not my issue at all. My issue is with the plot, twist and the 'witch' that haunts them.
After reading amazing reviews and watching a misleading trailer, I felt hope...this was soon dashed the moment the couple started to peel off the wallpaper to find the so-called entity behind the council house wall... which turned out to be a bird (big jump scare there).
All in all a sob story with no sob, crossed over with a horror which included scary peeling wallpaper, an random dead daughter that wasn't even their daughter but i'll move past that for the sake of the story, and some random Apeth emerging like Skeletor from the ground.
Im going to bed.
