This was a gentle and pointless exercise in minimalism. A number of characters entered and left having little to no effect. The mother and daughter and mother reveals nothing about why she lives the life she lives. In a way it feels like the Director wanted to punish us for or their own tedious life. Is this movie a critique of overly liberal lifestyles or simply a realistic version of rural life I’ve lived in western Massachusetts, even with the simple life we had it was far more interesting and full than what this movie presented. All that said, the actors did the best they could with the tiny morsels they were given, which is probably why they looked as bored as we were. The little girl in the film had more to do than anyone else and she didn’t seem more interested in it than we were. Why, for instance, do we have to watch an entire 30 seconds microwave of some blintzes? Really? Middle distance shots of people choosing not to interact with one another is no substitute for depth. Something that might undermine the meaning of various aspects of this story are the fact that we never see any of the loose ends tied. Events begin and with no discernible change in the main characters. If you find that you learn a lot from this film, tell me how.
