Gladiator (2000), starring Russel Crowe, is one of the best movies about Rome of all time. It takes you through the streets of the capital city of Italy, which were once paved with gladiators or warriors that would stop at nothing once commanded. The plot revolves around a Roman general, Maximus, who wants to avenge the emperor, Commodus, for slaughtering his wife and kid. The emperor tries to kill Maximus in an arena; however, the commander emerges victorious against the most brutal gladiators and wins the crowd. He kills the emperor in front of the crowd and wins the respect of other gladiators and calvary protecting the emperor.
