Well meaning but a bit flavorless, it is a highly predictable film replete with characters who by the end of the film-gasp- grow as people! There are well placed funny moments and some genuinely tender bits. The writing drops a few opportunities worthy of exploration that left me wondering what was the point of sitting through meaningless scenes. And then there all the numerous b-reels of a young man ice skating or strolling in a museum, that has more of a hallmark special than a motion picture.
It’s a good date movie. You can talk to one another here and there, wander off to the fridge or check your email and not miss a thing. In the dying words of Millard Fillmore, “the nourishment is palatable.” And nothing more.
