This movie made me miss the days of real costumes and props and not all this CGI junk. I still find the 80's version of, "The Thing" and my favorite horror movie, "The Shining," to be far scarier and more convincing then over-rendered stuff like this.
If you're a big fan of the book, you're going to probably be irked by all the deviations from the original storyline. If you haven't read the book, you're probably going to be bored like me. There are a lot of cliched lines and bonehead character decisions, but it wasn't as bad as a lot of horror movies these days.
Basically, we were bored and irritated enough that we had to cleanse our palate when we got home by putting on a GOOD horror movie. So don't waste your time and money by seeing in the theater. If you must have closure after seeing Chapter 1, just wait until it's on Netflix.
