The series starts out light hearted and a little cheesy at times. And yes why was the oldest daughter wearing a bad synthetic lace front wig!?! 👀 But as the series progresses, the topics get more serious. Mostly, I enjoyed how it touches on relevant issues that are currently going on in the black community.
The tone starts to change during the episode that is premised on women’s rights and equality which had an empowering message (I did cry a little). But the last episode had me in bawling! You get to know the little boys and see their innocence get taken away when the cops draw their guns on them and it broke my heart!
This episode finally touches on the racism that is still very prevalent in the south towards young black men. It struck a cord and was represented very well. This leads the series to end on a cliff hanger.
I really enjoyed getting to know the family, their closeness to God, their history and the honest messages some shows were portraying. I really hope Netflix continues with another season.
