Lighthearted, clever detective show a la Magnum P.I. This, too, is set on an island — Jersey, between England and France, which gives it a bit of an exotic flavo(u)r. The star, Bergerac is a defective with the “foreign” department, making sure visitors from France and GB mind their manners, as foreign dignitaries often forget to do. Bergerac is played very cheekily by “Midsomer Murders” star, John Nettles. The detective goes through an interesting rotation of girlfriends, who mostly get peeved at his devotion to duty. He is also devoted to his young daughter and less so to her mother who left him a few years ago because of his aforementioned devotion to duty. Both of these ladies in his life reside with his wealthy former father-in-law who is a is an island mid-level political bigwig, who annoys and occasionally assists Bergerac in his cases. Overall, a very enjoyable program.
