Honestly one of the best MCU series to have hit the screen- probably my personal favourite. characters are well written and fantastically acted. I am on the edge of my seat every week waiting for a new episode to drop. fully invested...disappointing to see how many nay sayers are unwilling to even give it a go!

I’d call this unimpressive or lacklustre. But only if it had any redeeming qualities. Abysmal, is more appropriate,

Decent acting but often hard to hear the dialogue of other sounds. Not helped by certain characters mostly mumbling. To be honest I found myself picking up my phone a lot out of boredom. Twists were predictable and character motivation were contrived/unbelievable. The critics were seeing something I wasn’t with their rave reviews. Not the worst movie I’ve seen in the genre recently, but that’s not saying much I’m afraid.

Okay so I am massively hard to please. To the extent I don’t know if I have ever put a 5 star review onto here 😂. In my opinion this movie just ‘worked’. I didn’t feel bored at any point which is rare for me. It’s not the most clever or brilliantly crafted movie, but it sticks to what works and makes the most of it. The humour landed, it didn’t get caught up in marvels typical yo-yo between dumb jokes that it would be hard to find funny past 13 years old, and convoluted plots that are underdeveloped in a way that leaves it hard to care about what happens. This movie picks its track and sticks with it, it’s just a silly superhero movie and so long as the humour works for you it’s well worth the watch.

3 stars to be fair but realistically 2.5 would be more accurate. The story here definitely is better suited to a written format. To me the move lacked any of of what made the hunger games movies work. I had no character to route for, characters felt poorly fleshed out and the movie felt about an hour too long. I didn’t hate it, but I certainly didn’t love it. With the book I find the drama happens more in the description and the internal thoughts of snow. That can’t be translated easily into film.

If you love slow burning films lacking any real point this is definitely the film for you! Basically the first 45 minutes of the movie is an extended period of character introduction and nothing interesting happening. There after it’s a badly put together string of boring small talk or flashing light fever dream scenes. I’d say the character development was bad but that would imply that there was any character development present at all. Basically viewers are treat to a buffet of nonsense with a healthy side of cliche. Save yourself the time, it’s 2 hours of your life you won’t get back.

So I’d rate this film - 2.5 if it was an option… decidedly middle of the road. I don’t get the hype. The story is thin and largely there is lots of random teenage angst from characters the movie just didn’t make me care about, the key flavours for most of the characters are dull with a dash of annoying. The gimmick of the movie could have worked well but without any real substance to back the movie up I found my attention wandering frequently. Another example of a movie where the actual content could have been condensed down into a 30 minute run time to greater effect. It has a quint essential campy teen horror ending that maybe would have been cool in the 80s if we hadn’t seen it all a million times before. Obviously I’m missing something that other people loved- to each their own but to my mind the only thing this movie exceeds in mediocrity.
