I've read them all... some a few times... and I loved the early books but I feel we have been witnessing a steady decline in the past few years. The stories seem too one dimensional and this latest one is a case in point. It feels like the plots are getting simpler and simpler, the range of characters is declining and there is little interweaving of plot. My impression is that in the early days there was real care given to the detail and characters as well as the landscapes eg Echo Burning but in recent years they feel like they are a bit formulaic and the plot is stretched out to be an acceptable length. This may be my last.
