This is a great album, it pays homage to the southern style that influenced Denzel growing up. The hooks are catchy, the beats are grimy and heavy, the interludes are memorable and build tension, and while lyrically this may be Curry’s most subdued project, numerous features ranging from legends like Project Pat to underground contemporaries add the depth and complexity he normally provides without compromising the overall flavor that the album tries to cultivate. Does it rely too much on the features? Absolutely, but I can’t be too mad at this celebration of an entire subgenre. It’s dirty, it’s grimy, and most of all, it’s fun. Denzel Curry continues to show us his range as an artist and remains one of the most consistent rappers of the new school in regards to the quality of his projects.
