Google is filled up with positive reviews so I am not going to elongate that, obviously this web series has brought a fresh air with the innocence probably the urban middle class youth have now lost. But keeping that aside, I have got just a few points here -
First, was it natural for Chadda saab to accept a local young guy, that too from a different religion, to be given a room for rent, which is at the attic? Satya ji, the author, narrated it differently where Rishi used to stay at the ground floor, that is more realistic considering eighties' society. It was not because he magically fixed a car, rather he helped in a few financial affairs.
Second, in a middle class house, I have never heard that water does not flow from top floor to ground floor if motor (pump) does not work, so Manu goes to take a quick bath to the bathroom adjacent to the attic, but then pours two buckets of water. Again, the author had written this sequence because Rishi used to stay at the ground floor.
Third, is it at all natural that you break into a bathroom by mistake where a young girl is taking bath, but just turn around but still stand at the door keeping the door half open? Rather why don't you immediately come out, either close the door at your back or the girl does herself and then you stand there frightened. Does it not sound unrealistic? Again, this is a deviation from the author's narrative.
Fourth, absolutely personal comment, could Hotstar not extend some sequences of Manu and Rishi's innocent love story perhaps by adding two more episodes? At the day's end it is a web series, not a movie. A lot of content from Satyaji's hundred pager original novella has not been adapted, so we missed a chance to see more screen presence of this perfectly mundane and innocent love story, that too in an age where nearly seventy percent of web series content sells sex and nudity.
However, I really liked the music, narration, acting, direction and cinematography, nevertheless Hindi film making is maturing to content based portrayal since past two years, that the regional movies in southern states started long back, that's a great achievement. If it would had remained more truthful to the author for the contents from 1984 it would have been further better.
