So there's not many negative reviews to this game besides people "hating characters" and "remodeling items" however, I'm going to give you some real issues with this game.
I bought Mario Party 8 Deluxe on my switch as I played Mario Kart on Wii and loved it, so I assumed it would be similar as I never had a Wii U, I was wrong.
Issue number 1: Everything is ready unlocked. You can no longer grind for your characters or tracks, as they're already unlocked for you, which may sound like a plus, but it takes away from playing solo. Which takes me into issue no. 2
Issue number 2: Besides getting full stars in 200cc, there are no rewards for progressing in the game. If you complete 50cc, 100cc and 150cc you won't gain anything. If you do complete 200cc to the best ability, you get Gold Mario, which I don't care for. I bought the game to grind as well as play multiplayer, however there isn't much to do in single
Issue number 3: The CPU's are hard, even in easy mode. They get items like red and blue shells way too often. Like two blue shells per game minimum and a ton of red shells. They often get these really good items juuuust before you win too so there's no chance to catch up. It's infuriating. You, if in first place, get barely any defensive items. Just useless coins, maybe the odd banana or green shell. Admittedly, playing this for a few hours I could just be bad at the game, but using my skills from the Wii (doing tricks on jumps for boosts), drifting boosts etc. I still can't catch up. It's a bit unfair.
Issue number 3: What you can unlock is stupid. The coins you collect (10 coins max per race) can buy useless kart pieces, which people can't even see in solo mode. You'd think you'd be able to unlock new tracks or more than one character.
Issue number 4: You can't vote for a specific battle on Online mode. You get a choice of maps and then the rules or game changes for each one. You can't even pick what you want to play. They're so confusing. I just want to play the coin battle or the balloon battle from the Wii, but I have to hope I get it and not another random game I'm not interested in.
Issue number 5: You can't choose what map you want when racing online specifically. You only get a choice of four, which is extremely annoying. It makes the game much faster with shorter waiting times, yes, but I feel I don't get a lot of choice. Nintendo only care about getting the game to move on as soon as possible.
Some positives are that the graphics are amazing, the maps are cool and that you can play with people from anywhere or where you live and there's an Elo system in place, so you're more likely to play with those in your rank.
Overall, I'm returning the game tomorrow. I wanted a game which gave me the classic multiplayer and gave me a reason to buy it other than that so I could get something else out of it rather than play it on the odd occasion, but the solo player is atrocious. I just wanted a rewarding system behind it so it gave me a purpose to play the game on solo. I don't care about gold mario or kart parts, so I have no reason to play it.
