Awful. I cannot believe Glenn Close and Amy Adams were a part of this disaster. Bad wigs, goofy script and worse, it just gawks at poverty & Appalachians as if they're animals in a zoo.
My family history is almost exactly the same as Vance's. My mamaw took the kids & moved off the mountain, from the border of Tennessee & Kentucky and to Dayton, which is just north of Middletown. My other Grandpa lived in a holler, right near Jackson, where Vance's family hails from. One thing that drove me absolutely nuts about this movie was the accents (or lack therof). There is no way in hell any of the folks portrayed in the film could've been from the holler or sw Ohio. Both of those regions have very distinct accents. It just seemed lazy and inauthentic to not even try to get that down.
Terrible and trite, don't waste your time.
