It is losing touch with reality. When the cast talk of division they mean 'headquarters. A chief superintendent is head of a division in charge of all in his division and reports to the chief constable at HQ. He is 2 ranks senior to a detective chief inspector and would 'eat alive' any DCI who was disrespectful, The Ch Supt's office and desk would be larger and much grander that a DCI's as would that of a Supt who although not mentioned would in the station somewhere serving as the Ch Supt's deputy and ranked above a DCI (detective chief inspector)
At the period of 'Endeavour' long serving senior officer would have served in the wartime military, now holding the rank of Chief Superintendent, equal to a colonel, he'd never accept insubordination which is a serious police disciplinary offence.
A sergeant is never addressed as 'sir' by any constable.
Transfer to CID is not a promotion.
The programme now contains too much 'beautiful' padding and for those who served at the same time is now a real downgrade from all proceeding series. Standards of accuracy have declined too far.
