ive watched the first ep and honestly can’t believe all the rave reviews: concept great! But wayyyy tooo cringy and american, each girl is like a film trope- the lead moody teenager- aggressive sporty girl- wholesome god loving blonde-
Also i can’t see how the lead girl can be likeable at all? She not only lied to a man about her age to coerce him to sleep with her, but the one chance she gets to call someone from the island, she calls him just to say nothing at all!! A girl literally died only a few hours ago but all she can think is poor me for being broken up with after i myself lied!!! She’s really just serving the ol moody teenager with no depth trope, just grumpy and unhelpful
I think if this concept was developed in the UK or by different non cheesy or more realistic writers/creaters this could have had potential to be a great show! It’s just hard for me to believe that after a traumatic experience these girls have shared they would be bothered to insult eachother over such petty things as pony tails and fashion choices. I can see what it’s trying to do it’s just too….. americanfied… maybe it’s just a difference in culture’s but i just cannot get over the cringe characters, dialogue and the same old character tropes i’ve seen many times before! which is a shame because i’m a huge fan of shows / films that explore the female experience and female friendship! As a 22 woman i just found absolutely nothing to relate to with the female characters
