I don't like it. The good, is the characters, actors and scenery.
The bad though, the extra liberties taken don't make sense to me as an avid fan of the original source material. Feels like every character is on a different story arc completely. From an antsy Aang who isn't care free and fun loving, Firelord Ozai, a caring father like what he gives Zuko a pep talk, Azula who cares what what Zuko is doing, she's a prodigy and doesn't care about anything, Katara who isn't motherly and wants to be a warrior, Sokka who famously is missing his biggest character development and instead is an engineer instead of a goofy, innovative leader? Finally, Roku is rarely seen and Kyoshi is more involved, which makes for a cool scene, but why? Why are we spending so much time with Aang and Gyatso? 1 star each for the animal designs and scenery, Momo has amazing screen time and personality, Appa looks incredible, the bending and fight scene are entertaining. But I don't like who it's easy to see that we have a few episodes that we can focus on so we mesh and try to make storylines work at the cost of messing with the source material.
Way better than the movie we don't speak about, but still, may live action is a hurdle, actually would have been cool to do an avatar Roku series before leading up to this, at least more liberties could be taken without as much criticism.
Welp, they got cabbages right.
