I thought the acting, production design, and animation were all great, BUT, I was so put off by the clash of futuristic technology with dickensian style,that I found I couldn't care about anything, because nothing seemed to fit together. The idea of sailing ships and cyborgs existing in a world together, just didn't work for me.

A "Twinkly" reimagining of Victorian England, with all of the sexism intact, but none of the racism. I thought from the style (which is excellent by the way) this would be a kids movie. But it has a strange sense of what is appropriate for the Genre. Some incredibly violent adult on child scenes are included, moving the film into darker territory, and then the "Twinkly bits" start up again? Add to that a mystery that isn't so mysterious and a very anticlimactic third act, the movie turns into entertaining mush. Not enough of any one thing to engage with, It substitutes by being very interesting to look at. Weak mystery plot, great actors, amazing visuals, disturbing violence. A solid C -

Yes it has an incredibly positive female role model (several of them in fact), and some brilliant acting. It also has a convoluted, confusing script, some really bad green makeup,and one of the worst CG animals I have ever seen. It's both a cultural touchstone, and a mediocre movie.

Amazing cinematography, production design, and soundtrack. Great ensemble cast, and unusual storytelling techniques. Somehow it manages to be original and derivative, surprising and predictable all at once. It's a big sprawling fun mess of a story, that only suffers from a little padding, and a less than satisfying resolution. You should watch it for the sheer joy of someone making beautiful moments, again and again and again. Much more entertaining than most superhero movies lately! It's not perfect, but its close. Real close.

The best animation and art direction I've seen in a long time, on top of a story that feels "fresh", yet fulfills all the holiday feel good movie criteria! I loved this movie!!!

I'm not familiar with the source material, and so, after 2 episode of mumbled dialogue, really annoying music, and endless exposition (most of which I couldn't understand because A: nonsense words, and B: mumbled!), I gave up. A good friend of mine really loves this show. I'm happy for her.
