Harshly broken and little fun to be had.
It's hard to pin down all the problems with this game in one comment, but here are the ones that stand out most to me:
With every update a hero becomes meta and the rest of the game suffers. Currently, the meta is Roadhog (who already made the game unplayable without other heroes' deficits). Between healing through outstanding incoming damage and being able to top literal support heroes in healing, there really isn't a better pick. This is a shame considering we have 34 other heroes that can't do anythingin comparison. Like I said, this isn't just limited to Roadhog, this is whoever the devs decide to make a god so they can convince people to play their dying game.
Free to Play! This would have been a great renovation if anyone had asked for it. Other players arguing for this addition seem to forget that Overwatch was already complacent with micro-transactions. I can see no benefit to making this game free to play and adding MORE micro-transactions...maybe because there is no benefit aside from a larger salary.
Competitive...a fundamental part of the game
In my opinion, the very idea of Blizzard lowering my SR to "encourage" gameplay is enough to make sure I never play this game again. The "slight decay" took me from Plat 1 to Silver 5. There's a lot of bootlickers who say "well if you're good, you'll earn it back fast enough" but obviously forget this is a team-based game. There is no way to earn SR back quickly when you're demoted and punished for playing the game itself.
Then there's the matchmaking. Someone really needs to explain how I, as being demoted to Silver 5, am being placed with a team of 3/5 Diamond/Masters. Given last season's progress, I would love to think I made it there, but since the rest of the lobby is actually Silver, I'm curious as to what's going on. This critical fault fills competitive with misery and takes away the fun as, again, it is a team based game.
Another problem with comp is the number of leavers. Blizzard can't really do anything about this aside from fix broken mechanics and make an actual game, but we know they won't. The problem was lesser in OW1 and it may have something to do with OW1 having a paywall.
General Problems.
I really can't say much here because there's an overwhelming amount to talk about. There are problems in this game that have existed for SIX YEARS without as much as a blink in their direction. When it comes to actually addressing problems, you can rest assured that Blizzard will only exacerbate the problem so they can stir up the community's participation; they feed on our hope that "maybe that one thing was finally fixed!"
If you have to purposefully break your game's dynamics to attract more players, or you had to make your game free because not even the people who bought it were playing, it might be time to quit/retire from game development. I didn't pay a dime for anything related to this game, but feel more cheated than I did by Battlefield 2042.
If you want to have fun playing OW2, either do not play it, or stick to custom matches (amateurs can make better games than Blizz devs).
