Good effort but something was just missing for me. I personally feel like the writer completely left out most of the key story elements that lead to Celie and Shugs unwavering friendship and love. They went almost straight from Shugs arrival to them being instant besties. I’m a HUGE Fantasia fan. I just saw her in Tampa a few months ago and she was phenomenal! However, some of her scenes were hit of miss as far as the power of her performance. Transversely I’ve never been a huge Taraji P Henderson fan, but her portrayal of Shug was by far the best I’ve ever seen from her and she definitely deserves a best supporting actress nod. Danielle Brooks was a great Sophia and Corey Hawkins as Harpo was probably the “breakthrough “ performance for me. There were many individual moments that were great, but something about all of the key plot omissions from the book and original movie kept the musical from living up to its full potential:,
