Such a horrific story about a little boy who so loved his mother despite the way that she and the boyfriend treated him. The undying loyalty that children have towards their parents (even when the parents lack the ability to be good parents) has always been mind-blowing. Even after being abused he still participated in a classroom project with his classmates as they created some "Mothers Day" signs professing his "love for his mom" even when there were visible signs of abuse on him at the time when the picture was taken in class.
A very heart breaking and tragic story for anyone in law enforcement and child welfare to view, to search out your hearts and to learn what to do and what NOT to do.
Those social workers and supervisors dodged a bullet. They could have been made an example of for other social services organization across the United States. I understand their job is very difficult and at times seems hopeless because of burn out, incompetent bureaucracy, lack of funding and not hiring the most qualified workers. What a cautionary tale to empower and to scare the hell out of us to really begin addressing and re-structuring social services which has always been a challenge in many states all across the country.
May that dear boy rest in peace! I'm sure family and friends miss you Gabriel! There are many people who never met you but because of this documentary will forever be changed and hopefully be more aware of child abuse and neglect in our country.
A must see! Compelling and it will change you!
