Having watched it, I could go back and make a list of irrelevant scenes and information we were given. Again, I get what they were trying to go for but I definitely think it could have been done better. I don’t think they used Zain’s character to the fullest potential. They consider him to be a main character but I think if they rewrote the script a little bit they could completely get rid of him and just make it about Beth finding out on her own. If they didn’t want to give us more characterization I wish they would have just made it about Beth. Aside from all the plot holes and unnecessary information, another thing that bothers me is the end.. I watched this at 1 in the morning so my apologies if I might have missed something.. that confrontation Beth had with Rob was awkward. I get it, she found the bead from her necklace, he killed her, that’s not what bothers me. As much as she talks about her daughter while on the trip, she chooses to confront him right there, knowing he’s capable of killing someone (not knowing it was an accident at this point), around her daughter. She already has the cops on their way, why did she A, have to confront him right there, she has the bead as proof he was there. And B, point it out to him that the cops were on their way, with all the emotions and adrenaline, it could have easily thrown him into a full on rage and he could have killed her there or harmed Aster in the process. And then the ending, seeing her walk out with her baby just didn’t feel like a decent ending.
But I do have to point out, the actors did a pretty good job with their characters, I just don’t think they were given too much to go on. It’s not a horrible movie, if you’re looking for time to kill, it’s an okay movie but it’s not anything to write home about. I think it could have been really great but the writing just wasn’t it. Given the actors and the idea they were trying to go for I’ll give 3 stars.
