I got the book because I was interested in the biographical details of Andrew Huang and as a long time fan of his unique music and style, I was interested in his process and what led to his secret sauce.
But for a book about making your own rules to build a creative/music career, I felt like the book defaulted on a lot of obvious advice about business, money and content. The section of the book on authenticity was the most disappointing to me because I felt like it cheapened the creative pursuit, framing it more as feeding a content machine. although maybe this was because it didn’t fulfil my expectations, I found this very demoralizing and limiting the thinking about my own creative pursuits of the last 20 years.
Final verdict: glad I got it, glad I read it, didn’t especially like it.
