This is one of my favorite films of all time, but in a dark and disturbing way. It weirdly comforts me when life sucks...watch it when you're feeling really disillusioned with your fellow human beings. It resonates. A few times in my life when circumstances were grim and unyielding through little or no fault of my own, I gravitated to it; it has an apocalyptic feel. The film has touches of Blue Velvet, definitely an influence; and strong use of colors and images that match the grim storyline, create the mood, and stay with you. Great actors; you'll recognize many names and faces. Ryan Gosling is behind the story (not in the story) and shows he's got so much more going on than just being an actor.
