This movie DEFINITELY wasn't perfect. There were several lacking elements that fans of the musical would notice and be uncomfortable with, for example, the new Mongojerry and Rumpleteaser song isnt that great, Rebel Wilson and James Corden didn't fit their roles, and sadly Rum Tum Tuggers song was no where NEAR as beautiful as the play.
But,
Taylor swift as Bombalurina was PERFECT. The moment I saw her in the trailers I thought "She better sing Macavity," AND SHE DID. Gus was played by Gandalf (Ian McKellen) which would actually be my first choice for a character. Macavity played by Idris Elba worried me a little bit, I wasn't sure if he would have the villain qualities for Macavity, but he did. He played the role creepily and scary, and while I would've payed for more of his singing, he did have a great voice. Jennerfer Hudson was ok. Her character didn't feel old, and her voice was a bit to modern for the song (meaning it felt like a pop singers voice). And her noce kept running with snot and it was pretty gross.
Im rating this 5/5. Not because I honestly feel that way, but this movie is underrated. People who didnt like it need to watch its source material. After watching the movie my friends had no clue there even was a musical, but the is and it is DEFINITELY deserving of a 5/5. I recommend this movie to people who liked the musical, and to people who didn't, they wouldn't really understand it, but it is still nice to hear some of the songs and it is full a GORGEOUS cameratogrophy. Great movie.
