II never write reviews here but felt I had to in this case after reading what the vast majority of the 1 star comments said. I find it ridiculous that people declare things “woke” and immediately go on a negative rant. If you can’t handle topics like racism and inequality without calling it “woke garbage” then don’t watch it and don’t leave a review. The definition of woke is “alert to racial prejudice and discrimination” so if you find yourself triggered by things “woke” perhaps you should take a hard look in the mirror because we should all strive to be “woke.”
Now on to the review. When watching the first episode, I wasn’t sure this show was for me. None of the characters really grabbed me but I decided to give it a chance to develop and I’m so glad I did. I now look forward to watching the new episodes when they drop on Thursdays (episode 6 today) and enjoy all the characters except Cynthia who I find annoying but I think it may just be her insecurities which hopefully will go away as her character’s strength grows. I would say my favorite character is Olivia because the actress (Cheyenne Isabel Wells) does an amazing job bringing that character to life. Oh and Hazel (Shanel Bailey) what a voice!!! I found myself rewinding the roof scene just to listen to her sing “Same Sky.” I ended up buy it on iTunes. So the point of my review is don’t read/listen to the negative reviews of people triggered by topics of racial discrimination & inequality (unless you’re a person triggered by them). Give the show a chance and see how you feel about it after 2 or 3 episodes.
***** I gave the show five stars to offset the 1 star “woke” reviews. I wouldn’t say; as of right now (episode 6), that this is a 5 star show but it doesn’t deserve the low rating it currently has because of those “woke” reviewers who aren’t even watching the show. The show is good enough that it’s the first thing I watch on Thursdays and I look forward to every new episode.
