This show had so much promise, and came out of the gates strong, but ended up faltering and falling straight on its face. The first episode might be, no scratch that, is the best first episode of any show ever. The dialogue was well written, the environment absolutely spectacular, and the story magnetic. It had just the right amount of gore, mystery, and humor to keep you immersed.
The second episode was pretty good for the most part, and I liked the way it started out with Val Helsing and Dracula playing chess as sort of a metaphor for things to come. It was almost like a "Knives Out"/"Clue"-ish sort of episode for the most part, where I can't really complain. Probably give this episode a B+ and the first an A+.
The third was an absolute dumpster fire. The show goes into complete freefall as if the writers/producers all dropped 15 hits of acid and forgot about the intent of the show. They could have made it work with the adaptation into modern times, but it just turned into a cheap show that you would find on some public television channel where they have churned out 100's of episodes that have no substance.
Do yourself a favor and view Dracula as a 3-hour movie, and forget about the third episode. It's an embarrassment, and a tragedy that this is how they followed up what could have been a masterpiece.
