There are no words that can truly do justice to this series, which charts, with devastating accuracy, the insidious infiltration into American, and ultimately global mainstream society, of the powerful opiate Oxycontyn.
Coming from a personal perspective, and one who sadly has witnessed firsthand the truly horrendous consequences of this drug within my own family, the accuracy of certain scenes, Betsy screaming out in anguish when her parents, realising the full extent of her addiction, flush the pills down the toilet immediately comes to mind, but there were many others, were almost too painful to watch.
The sickening attempts of the family owned drug company behind Oxycontyn, to successfully manipulate everything and everyone from doctors to sales reps, from the FDA to the DEA, and with the financial clout to effectively buy the silence of any detractors to the extent that many of it's most vociferous opponents ended up on their payroll, should serve as a timely reminder of the monster that can be unleashed on an unsuspecting public when profit is prioritised over health.
