A very well orchestrated Gothic Horror.
The first three quarters of the film (aside from one unnecessarily gory scene) was quite enjoyable.
However, the last part of the film loses points for removing the possibility that the supernatural elements might have been imagined by Edith.
This is a common Gothic Horror trope where the heroine is convinced by herself or others that what they see isn’t real, no matter how real they may seem.
Breaking that trope, the film jumps from Gothic Horror Romance to Psychological Thriller with the Gothic elements becoming nothing more than window dressing.
