Animation was colorful and vivid. Storyline and dialogue were repetitive and (I hate to say it) predictable. I felt like they were rewording the same dialogue as the first movie over and over again. It’s almost like the writers scrapped all of their original ideas and were running out of time, so they followed the same formula for many scenes throughout the movie so they could get the movie into production.
Only one song half-way through the movie was catchy and worth listening to again, from a character named Matangi. Most of the other songs were just created with odd timing/tempo and a lot of belting from the singers — not something that people can really sing along to. I think if I listened to the soundtrack back it would be hard to differentiate one song from another because they all kind of have the same rhythm and melody.
I was so disappointed in this movie as the first Moana movie was one of my favorites. Several of the characters accompanying Moana along her journey are one-dimensional with backstories that should have been expanded upon. The premise was promising, but the execution on behalf of the writers and song writers were terrible. I’m actually annoyed by Moana 2 and all of the choices that went into this movie.
