I want to like it so badly, but there are so many things that keep me from loving this show. - Character’s turn on a dime and make consistently bad decisions. - Dialogue feels awkward and very same-y in a way thats hard to accurately describe. In a serious scene where a character is opening up they’ll interrupt themselves with an interjection of “no, thats not it” or a “oh, do i sound awkward”, and its very jarring every time. - This is similar to my first point, but characters become extremely anal or emotional over minor things and tend to air on the side of unreasonable - SPOILER By season 3, Mark is meant to be the STRONGEST HERO ON EARTH, yet somehow almost every single fight feels close. Even his brother has better moments of strength while literally being a weaker character, even in the same scenes. - Attempts at jokes or lightheartedness comes off extremely flat or in bad taste because of circumstances, which makes certain characters come off as very unlikeable - Relationships feel unnatural/unearned in most cases, Amber in season 1 was a whole thing I’d like to forget about - Random mentions of r——ism, and s——ism, etc are jammed in an excessive amount (google didnt like the words so i censored them). A mummy in some tomb is called a misogynist by two female explorers and its supposed to be funny for some reason. Or another time some people are talking about Mark fighting the female viltrumite, and a girl is like “yeah, she was totally beating him” smugly. Like WHAT?! She was an invader on your planet, you should be concerned, not happy because a woman beat up a man. The priorities dont make sense, but that just goes back to my previous points. Final example, when a villain escapes Mark, Mark accidentally grabs a random dude wearing the same outfit. The guy says “we all look the same to you hero?” in a condescending tone, implying because he’s black that Mark can’t tell the difference. Made me pause the show in sheer awe The show does have strengths, but its characters and writing hold me back from actually being able to say I love it. I forced myself through season 3 and got to the point where I’d just skip a scene if I got the feeling it was more needless character disagreements or fruitless drama. Season 1 was good, and our “villain” was with us the whole season. Season 2 and 3, the villains feel tacked on last second making it feel empty. No more “what will you have in 500 years” moments where it gets real, just mediocre buildup to a pretty average finale. I tried my best to like this show, but I ended up disliking it enough to write a google review for it. I’m still giving 3 stars because season 1 was good and the few characters I did like, like Mark’s brother, helped carry me through the 3 seasons that are currently out as of writing this review.
