I can’t see why people are so driven to attack this show beyhond the anti woke rebellion and a wish to see more of the great Geralt of Rivia. It has its underdeveloped melodramatic moment, and there’s a little clunk in the writing - much like it’s mother show - but if you can seperate the saga from this stand alone adult high fantasy tale then the payoff is big. It has elements of gorgeous cinematic beauty and invention and a fighting savagery to some scenes that are incredible. Is it on par with the Godfather in it’s acting labour? No. But it’s not meant to be. It’s a brutalist, self contained fantasy ark that’s both juvenile and mature, titillating, driven and raw. It cuts to the chase. It doesn’t have time to fill in hours with slow hints at a characters motivation. It just gets there. And it incorporates only minor elements of silliness with a very direct and driven plot quest which is never dull and has moments that are beautiful in their richness. It’s wholly gripping at points and the characters, though perhaps not fully fleshed out in their organics, are large and clean archetypal staples that satisfy the shows narrative as a quintessential hard boiled questing adventure. It’s a fable about a band unlikely warriors that fight for honour and justice against dark magic and evil in a world of empirical prejudice and treachery. And it’s a very good one. I’d say watch it. Boring it is not. And im sure that if its name wasn’t attached to the fanboydom that is the Witcher, this show would be getting rave reviews for what it is. A strong, dark fantasy tale that’s not got a single boring scene.
