I don't mind the skipping between characters, I don't mind the broken sequencing of Shallan's sections. I can get past the vauge, Lost-esque plot points of "more questions with each answer". What I can't get over is the almost constant torture and sadness in this story. It's almost as if I was reading Acheron again, painful. Story points made me cry, and often, but not necessarily to build a character.. it felt like we were building the characters solely in order to poke the holes to make the reader sad. And when our main Character's outward mental battle is depression, you'd think people with depression might be reading this and trying to relate to this character.. it's almost as though the author did not take that into account at all, and just wanted copious reasons to *justify* his depression. Not once did I feel that we were overcoming something.
All in all, did not feel worth my emotional investment.
