It’s sort of just okay. I know people love this game but it just feels like a very complicated UI is being used to hide a very bare bones fantasy online game. The story is incredibly one note, cliche, and boring. (At some point I just stopped reading the dialogue.)
As is typical with these kind of games, it’s a lot of fetch quests but it’s not the worst since the maps are fairly small and fast travel cuts a lot of time. However the character design, well ALL of the design, is ugly as hell. For starters, half the costumes, characters, villains, and weapons don’t match the universe AT ALL. I played the gunner, which was an incredibly fun character to play with, but veers between a diesel punk and steampunk aesthetic that doesn’t fit with the medieval aesthetics of the other characters. (Complete with pumps or stilletto steel toed boots. Lol)
The character creation ain’t really what everyone hyped it up to be either. Everyone has a fairly default face and features that can just be slightly adjust with the sliders. (No ugly characters allowed!) I did enjoy the color options, however, and that I could adjust the eye colors separately. The armor is also really pretty as you level up but be prepared for the standard “booty shorts and T-shirt” style armor for the beginning pf the game. The female gunner seemed to be the worst offender of ugly beginner armor to the point that my husband made fun of my character for a while. (Until she got her 00s gaucho pants!)
Finally, a good plus side of the game is you really don’t have to spend money to beat the game. Most of the “real money” items are cosmetic and the few things that aren’t, you really don’t need them. This game has a lot of useless features and mechanics so don’t run in thinking you even need to pay attention to half of it. Armor and weapon upgrades were all I needed to start tearing through the game like it’s nothing. Trust me.
