Eddie’s performance feels like when someone in the schoolyard had a Certron blank cassette tape of Delirious when I was a teenager and heard him for the first time. This is the 48 hours/Beverly Hills Cop/ Trading Places charisma that drew us to Eddie in the beginning and made us love him all these years. I mean the family movies he did were great, but this is our Eddie Murphy, the one my generation adored. The one that made us practice his laugh and reserve tapes at the video store to get to see the best of Saturday Night Live Eddie Murphy edition. Thank you Mr. Murphy this felt like a gift to us long time fans. I was waiting for the movie because of the story, but the performance was what floored me.
Postscript: The dedication to Charlie made my eyes tear up. We miss you Charlie.
