I found this movie extremely depressing mostly because its characters are so spiritually blind. The movie's director clearly wants to make a not-so-subtle point that Christianity is the enemy of healthy relationships both with ourselves and with others. This is a gross misrepresentation of Christianity. God created each one of us (no exceptions) out of love, however He gave us the choice to allow him into our lives or not. When we allow His Holy Spirit to fill our lives we become more like Him and even though our physical bodies may deteriorate our inner souls begin to more and more radiate with the light of Christ (see 2Cor 5:4).
Every character in this movie could have benefited from knowing Christ more deeply. When we enter into a close relationship with Jesus through the Holy Spirit we come to know His Father, our God, more deeply. When this happens, God's Truth fills our hearts, minds and souls and, as a result, no evil on this earth can hurt us. When we are in right relationship with God we become more in right relationship with each other (see the book of Romans). This profound truth of the Gospel was totally ignored and grossly mispresented in this movie. Until each of us makes a personal decision to grow in relationship with Jesus, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, we will continue to see more mental illness, depression, suicides (gay and straight), divorce, pornography (objectification of the bodies of men and women) and so on. This movie only contributed to the lie that living outside of the Truth can provide freedom and life.
