The story is limp and at its worse towards the end. None of the relationships, except between Danny and Maeve, have been described well, and even that is odd because they seem to have nothing in common except some memories of the house and the staff that looked after their daily needs. Even the staff is brought into the story as and when needed without in any way contributing anything meaningful. The most ridiculous part is when the mother abandons an obviously dying Maeve, her own child, for Andrea, who has treated her children as badly as she treated them.
