What was the point of Maximus Death?
SPOILER ALERT!!! DONT READ IF YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW!!!!
People realize that Lucius is the same age as Emperor Geta and Caracalla at the end of Gladiator 1, where the senate is suppose to take charge in the absence of the rightful ruler Commodus, because he was killed by Maximus. The whole point was to make Rome for the people. I don’t quite get it where was the threat coming from for Lucius to leave in the first place. The tyrant was dead.
Gladiator 2 is a mess, copy cat after copy cat after copy cat, no character and no identity. Emperor Geta is just Commodus in disguised and Emperor Caracalla e mini me of Geta. Meanwhile the main man Denzel is thrown out there with no charm or spark, is just another one in the pile. Wrong actor for the role to be honest.
In this movie it can pin point many, many, trust me many situations where is a dysfunctional chaos, from the start that Lucius just takes lead, above his senior officer who just dies because he chooses to, then the emotional detachment between the relationship of Lucius and the girl, flashbacks, day dreaming, wanting the same things to a certain extend as Maximus did, yet hadn’t lived the struggles of war, or at least we are not told. Well, it’s one sh*t show after the next.
I’m still asking myself why? While Lucius is fighting to save his mother, then Macrinus after an outstanding accurate shot, then from the top floor he magically appears on the ground floor telling the Roman soldiers what to do??? And Lucius just horses his way through hundreds of Roman soldiers when everyone was trying to kill him, to just meet up with Macrinus at the bridge??? What the actual f*ck???
Well, you get the point. It’s insane how this movie was approved and even brought to life. I would prefer to have a true Casear that was evil and had an evil general by his side then to make Gladiator 1 copy and paste some bits. The moment Lucius puts Maximus armour needed to be a WOW moment yet he gets to find about it by accident with the doctor, insane. To be fair, the doctor is the best character throughout the all movie, still don’t quite get it how he was trusted with calling up the troupes.
I can go on and on and on, but is best to leave be. Ridley Scott at the end shows his intention but it was poorly executed, first Napoleon, then Alien Romulus and now Gladiator 2… 3 strikes you’re out. Just sad.
