I am Japanese, so there are many animes that I have loved since childhood. However, even now, more than 20 years passed after its first release, I still consider this film to be the culmination of anime and a representative work of Ghibli.
The plot is easy to understand, but difficult themes are lurking behind it. The animation is magnificent, showing the director's reverence for nature, and the characters are well-drawn with virtues and vices in great detail. There are some painful scenes, but not enough to close your eyes. Finally, the magnificent music, which matches well with the spectacular images of nature, was composed by Joe Hisaishi. These masterpieces are beautifully mixed in two hours.
