Disappointing. The plot was often silly rather than the more customary sharp Bennett humour

Friendships and how we see others change as time also moves on and circumstances change. And how some change (develop differently) but others need circumstances to stay mainly the same. A profound book - worth reading!

The plot is the disturbing civil war in Sri Lanka. The setting is a family - one daughter and 4 brothers who are involved in various ways. A superbly well written book which involves the reader in the struggle and traumas of the daughter, Sashi’s life.

This wonderfully lyrical book unfolds with unexpected surprises. A beautiful read that moved me to tears in the end.

An amazing plot but one that could have benefitted from being more concise.
