So I've played this game for about 2 hours now (on xbox series S, the optimised version). I did 1 short delivery and 2 medium deliveries. I will share my +pros and -cons.
Starting with the +pros
+ the map is pretty big, even though it's only Germany! A medium length delivery, let's say from Hamburg to Berlin cost me something like 45mins IRL.
+ the truck models look good, interior and exterior
+ signs next to the roads are very well readable (but I do miss a lot of signs)
+ trailers look good
+ the mirrors work
+ you can get out of your truck and walk around
+ AI traffic behaves ok.
I honestly wish I could think of more pros, but i honestly can't. So im going to start with the cons, which also includes some bugs. I just hope the devs might see this review and use this criticism to update the game, because it really has potential!!
So the -cons (get ready):
- doesn't feel like driving in Germany. I don't live in Germany myself, but have driven there plenty enough times to know how it should feel and look. This game doesn't give me Germany vibes.
- most textures look very bad, almost like it's a ps2 game or something, especially in cities, they look dead, everything looks the same. Very low quality textures on certain things like doors. The road textures also look super simplistic, especially signs on the road (lines, arrows).
- kind of said it, but the cities look very poorly. Very weird proportions, sidewalks are huge, these very random ad billboards, everything looks the same, no dynamic, just quite boring. Driving through the cities doesn't give that city vibe at all. Feels like a lot of copy paste has happened.
- no challenging situations. Literally all the intersections feel the exact same. All the traffic lights locations feel the exact same, everywhere, maybe because the signs on the road are also the exact. same. EVERYWHERE!!!
- low drawdistance
- driving on the highway is boring, nothing to really look at. Just a lot of trees. And if you drive past these forest-y places, the forest still looks super empty. Like a shy forest. You occasionally find a low quality building alongside the highway, if you're lucky windmills. And again, driving on the highway doesn't remind me of the highway (autobahn) in Germany
- No police??? Can you get fined?? I haven't noticed anything....
- the interaction menu is a bit confusing and not very simple to use, for me at least. I don't really understand how some things work, and theres no tutorial or tips/hints.
- I can play the game using my Thrustmaster wheel, but there's no FFB, also no settings for wheel controls, so you can't customise your wheel/buttons settings, and by default its not really ideal.
- also no vibration on controller (but i haven't really played using my controller, only played with the wheel)
- you can't hear AI traffic driving by. Overall sound is soft, except for turn signals
- rainy weather has this bug where the raindrops on the windshield just suddenly disappear even though it's still raining, so using the wipers becomes unnecessary. Also, rain creates these pools on the road but the water doesn't interact with the environment, so driving through a pool does not create any kind of splash or effect on the water.
- rest stops look boring and the same, especially the fuel station parts.
- something feels off about the GPS.
I just hope this game will receive updates, because it could be so much fun, but it really seems unfinished and definitely doesn't look like a xbox series s/x optimised game. For now i don't necessarily need a bigger map or more truck brands, because the base of the game is not good enough yet.
