Before I begin my review, I want to state that the reason I did not enjoy this movie is not because of any feminist themes found throughout the movie.
Spoilers ahead*
Ok so going into this movie, I expected some fun movie where Barbie goes to the real world for whatever reason and realizes that the real world is not nearly as perfect as the barbie world. There would be funny moments, and ultimately the goal would be to either merge the two worlds, or bring some sort of peace to the real world. You know, classic barbie style right?
But nooooo, this movie was just an absolute abomination.
I am no professional film critic, but I feel like the plot had a MAJOR 360 like 45 minutes into the movie. Barbie realized she wasn't perfect anymore and she went to the real world to go fix it, and then after that scene with Ken on their way to the real world, everything fell apart.
Everything just felt like it took so long to get over with, and the entire time the film just felt like a men vs. women kinda thing. They did end up making it where they would stop fighting and show some sort of equality, but it just didn't feel right after the horrible "fight" scenes with the Ken's before that.
When people ask me why I didn't like this movie, I tell them this. Good message, wrong movie.
This is exactly what was wrong with the movie.
Also side note, they mentioned a lot of good points about how women are viewed in this world and how it's messed up and should change, yet after the movie they decide to play the Ice Spice Barbie song which has some very questionable lyrics that go completely against what the movie was trying to tell the audience. That's just horrible in my opinion.
