Good production overall. Anthony Hopkins plays a credible Lear but his madness doesn’t quite reach the anxiety that Lear’s psychosis is meant to portray. Of the two scheming daughters, Emily Watson is listless while Emma Thompson’s Goneril is right on point. The supporting cast members are a bit much to handle. Too much angst and not enough sophistication. However, enjoyed the ensemble’s mastery of the Bard’s dialogue as most actors have trouble with Shakespeare’s inflection and tone. To score this, I give it a 7 out of 10.
