This was the best Marvel movie to me. Dr. Strange took you on an elegant ride consisting of heart ache, desperation, joy, panic, horror, power, truth and more!!! Even though the movie is a Dr. Strange movie, I loved how it dove deeper into Wanda’s pain. I feel like I fully understand her now. For a character to endure so much tragedy without any true support her story arch was very fitting. She was a villain, not bc she wanted to be, but bc she was desperate and tired of hurting. I have read reviews where people are bashing bc the people who could get through to her were her children and one of her other selves, but I feel like that was the point. When your life has resulted in you not having anyone to show you love after everyone you truly loved were ripped from you, anyone could go mad. Only a deep love could pull you out of that place and her children were that for her.
The cameo’s were fun and very impactful. It was wonderful to see that Marvel was not afraid to be bold with the gore and death. This type of story needed those elements. Cumberbatch is such a talented actor. His performances as various Stranges left me loving him even more. I really liked how Marvel explored the impacts 5 years had not just on Dr Strange but on his colleague from the hospital, Dr. West. In super hero movies, we get so focused on the hero that we forget their actions sometimes hurt regular people. Dr. West, was a nice reality check for Dr. Strange.
Lastly, I want to say, Wong is my guy!!! He is funny even when he’s not trying to be. One thing I don’t get, where was he when Wanda took over Westview? Where was Strange? Them turning a blind eye gave birth to this movie. I’m not too sore about it bc this movie was EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It has been 12 hours since I watched Dr Strange 2, and I am still reeling from the ride. I am definitely going to go see this again.
