Fantastic movie, from top to bottom, opening to ending. ESPECIALLY compared to the only mario movie I had growing up was just awful. As most video game to movies are. The critics REALLY seem to have it out for the film, though. Don't know why, all my doubts were proven to be unsubstantiated, and surely, theirs were, too. Unless it's to keep an animated, video game based, 1h30m film from becoming the highest grossing film..ever. Can't have a genuine, happy, light-hearted movie taking that away from Marvel or Titanic man..whether 5 or 35, this movie is good. Great, even. Emotionally charged, funny. Nice story, that somehow felt fresh. Music is a huge accomplishment and Jack Black can elevate a soundtrack to new levels, music is even used as nostalgia fuel, way to incorporate references, and tell the story. Voices work, I wasn't looking forward to a few of them, but proved my skepticism to be just that. No one goes too far, even when being known for doing just that. I really don't know what else to say, it's good. And give it a try. Critics seem to be hating, unfortunately, for reasons not involving the actual content of the movie. Which, literally misses the entire point, critics shouldn't determine what people Watch, Listen to, or 'allow' them to enjoy. Instead of lowering ratings for hidden agendas. Great film, give it a chance.
