Jay Asher did an incredible job writing "Thirteen Reasons Why". However, the main idea was terrible. The main character, Hannah Baker, is an entitled, self-absorbed brat. I don't find any of her reasons for committing suicide justified and I would even claim some of them were self-inflicted. I don't like that through the tapes she convinces people that they could have done more or they didn't care enough. Why does Hannah Baker get to decide what the terms of "care enough" are? The whole book is evidence of her only doing this for attention. I'm not sure if it was the author's goal but this book does glorify suicide and the negative effects it can leave on people involved. I would not recommend this book.
