First things first, manikandan has never failed to make a masterpiece and indeed this movie is one such. From the beginning till the end it was such an emotional yet a magical roller coaster of emotions. The way the film has captured the beauty of the village as well as its people is beyond words. The casting was so beautiful that each and every character; even the characters who had shared a negligible screentime still remain in our hearts. The fact that Vijay Sethupathi appears in the movie for not a long time eventhough he was the producer makes it even more brilliant. And ofcourse, eventhough Sethupathi shared a limited screentime the warm and divine presence he had throughout the film and even after it had ended was truly beautiful. Each and every person and their character had a different impact on us.The paddy field he'd sown and his cattle meant much more to Maayandi than it was presented to us.Yogi babu's character was so beautifully built that it presented right before us how he's lost his roots that connected him to his farmland which must've been his everything and how much he'd drifted away from his own self that all he'd cared about then was the so called ' Good Name' among the villagers. The old women in the village and especially vasanti's(mayaandi's sister's daughter) was so beautifully done by the actress. What i'd like to point out even more is the significance of Lord Murugan in the movie.I've never ever been so drawn towards something as much i was drawn towards ramaiah and his love for Murugan."One who has gotten rid of thoughts become closer to God" said one of the villagers about Ramaiah. The way he just dissolved into the air when he heard the peacock's cry for the last time was so beautiful that i bawled my eyes out at that one. For Ramaiyah, his Murugan was much more that what could have been expressed.
Digging deep into the plot we're taking a glance at the beautiful side of Mayaandi and his people's life and their magnificent village. The way the Western invention has made an indescribable impact on their peaceful and natural lives revolving around their farmlands(inherinatnce) was brilliantly drawn out in the movie.Their land has never been and never would be familiar to the foreign and artificial ways of farming. The way Maayandi fell ill once his land's been feeling ill portrayed how deep the roots were that connected him with his farmland.
Long story short, it was real a GEM. Hoping more wonderful creations from Manikandan and Sethupathi and other directors as well.
