This book is a stunning master work of literary realisation in the realm of speculative fiction.
I just read it in 2022 and found every small part of the story stands up to the test of time in a somewhat disturbing manner. This is very rare of books of this genre written over 30 years ago.
The writing is lyrical with every word and punctuation playing its part beautifully. It's an easy read, even if the stories are disturbing. the characters are skilfully realised and engaging and interesting, though maybe not people you would be comfortable getting to close to and spending to much time with.
The stories each character tells are each uniquely rendered in their voice from their heart. Each has its own painful beauty.
I could say much more yet my own words are not sufficient; all I can say is please read this book.
While you do be sure to have a collection of John Keats poems close to hand.
