The one star this film gets is due to its aesthetic. Almodóvar has a way of making the worst plotless films look stunning on screen. For the actual storyline, the film has several co-concurring stories happening at the same time, all of which are dealt rather superficially. There’s no depth to the death of Ana’s baby, Janis sexuality, the exhumation… Nothing. All these stories are just thrown at you and you’re expected to glue these half-stories together and make a film out of it. The actors are superb, so it’s a shame they had so little to work with.
