Some matters were left unanswered in the end for Catchpool to think of himself. But we're no detectives, why should the readers go through all the trouble of thinking about how things happened. It could have been more straightforward honestly

I think they should've stopped after HT 2. 3&4 made Jhonny look like a highly irresponsible person who seemed high on crack all the time. It also made Mavis kinda the villain who was always against her father and blaming him for everything. Garbage movie. Ruined the whole series.
