Overhated for no reason. I get which parts can put some people off especially "veteran" (entitled) fans of the series. But if it wasn't for Rise of the TMNT I wouldn't have a new found love for the entire franchise. I grew up with the 2003, 2007, and 2012 versions, and loved each and every one of them without comparing the other, and I wish people were more like that. I love how Rise was more light-hearted and the turtles and Splinter were more affectionate towards one another, not that the previous iterations didn't, but besides the exaggerated faces and more goofy style of Rise is a fresh introduction to the turtles especially for the new generation of fans.
Although Raph and Leo's roles have changed I seriously think the turtles are not too far from the turtles we know and love. Leo is more laid-back but his intelligence with devising strategies is definitely still there which I think is greater than Raph's who is the leader this time. Leo is my favorite turtle in most iterations, because he was known to be the most mature, responsible and calm, and there's a side of me that likes him most when he just goofs around and actually has a dork and nerdy side, which is why I found Rise and 2012 to be the most lovable Leos. Rise Leo is more laid-back but is still the confident schemer I knew from other versions.
Raph's soft side is more explored in Rise, without removing the short-temperedness that he had with other vers. like Leo's role in previous versions, Raph as a leader was also insecure, and always thought everyone is solely depending on him because he is the big brother. To tell you honestly Rise slowly hints in some ways why Raph is unfit to be the leader. Rise Raph is just as overprotective with his other versions, but like them imo he is not the leader type because he allows his emotions to get in the way of his decisions.
Donnie has that "if he weren't a good guy, he'd be a dangerous villain" vibes, I love the upgrade on him too because his tech matches real life modern technology. A good addition to Donnie's character is him being a soft-shell turtle which makes him more vulnerable and dependent on his tech.
lastly, my comfort turtle in all TMNT, Mikey is not bullied too much which I'm glad, he is not characterized as too dumb either, because this Mikey introduced other creative skills outside of martial arts, I always believed Mikey to be the most well-rounded turtle he just prioritized fun more than anything else, and the funniest for me in rise is his kindness is more wild with Dr. Delicate touch and his other personalities.
The more haters there are for Rise, the more I'll love this series :3 If I meet more fans who do love Rise of the TMNT, then I'll join the fun in keeping it alive for the next few years. hopefully the next iteration is as good or better than Rise, IF we don't get a Rise continuation ;w; If the future versions turn out to not be my taste then oh well... but one thing's for sure is I won't be a toxic douche who wastes their time spreading hate on every new TMNT iteration.
